Ingredients

  • 1 small cheesecake store-bought or homemade, preferably frozen
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup cold water ice-cold works best
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Chocolate sauce optional

Instructions

Freeze the Cheesecake:

  • Freeze your cheesecake for at least 2-3 hours or overnight. This will help it keep its shape when frying.

Prepare the Tempura Batter:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and egg. Gradually add cold water, whisking until the batter is smooth and slightly bubbly.

Heat the Oil:

  • In a deep pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). This is the ideal temperature for frying.

Coat the Cheesecake:

  • Cut the frozen cheesecake into small slices or squares. Dip each piece into the tempura batter, making sure it is coated evenly.

Fry the Cheesecake:

  • Gently lower the battered cheesecake slices into the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes, or until they develop a golden-brown, crispy exterior.

Drain and Dust:

  • Take the fried cheesecake out of the oil and set it on paper towels to absorb any extra oil. Dust with powdered sugar.

Optional Toppings:

  • For added indulgence, drizzle with chocolate sauce or your favorite fruit syrup.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve immediately for the best texture, and enjoy the perfect balance of crispy tempura and creamy cheesecake.
